Cold Emergency Plan Activation

This is an important message from the District of Columbia AlertDC system.

The Department of Human Services (DHS) reports the city’s Cold Emergency Plan will remain in effect until 7:00am, Wednesday, January 20, 2016. National Weather Service (NWS) is forecasting today’s current temperatures to reach a high of 27 degrees with a wind chill in the low to mid-teens. Tonight’s temperatures are expected to drop to a low of 17 degrees with a wind chill of between 5-10 degrees with no chances of precipitation. Under a Cold Emergency, additional services and supports are put in place to protect residents who are experiencing homelessness beyond what is provided during a Hypothermia Alert.

Hypothermia season has begun. When the actual or forecasted temperature, including wind chill, is 32° or below, the District issues a Hypothermia Alert.
