SPECIAL MEETING ON TRANSITIONAL HOUSING FOR HOMELESS MARCH 16
ANC 4D will host Deputy Mayor Brenda Donald, who is overseeing the closure of the DC General Family Shelter and the placement of families through all eight wards, at a special community meeting just to answer your questions about the Mayor’s plans to create a transitional housing facility for 49 homeless families at 5505 5th St. NW.
I haven’t heard anyone question the principle that the shelter at DC General needs to close or that the families need more services, or that all the wards must participate. But my neighbors are asking how this site was chosen, and how well would it be managed. Also, how would it affect neighborhood schools, business, and other institutions? Finally, given the poor state of the physical, economic and social infrastructure in the area, which the city repeatedly promises, but fails, to improve, does the city plan any upgrades of the neighborhood for the current, as well as future, residents of the community?
This will be an evening of dialogue about this important initiative, which, if it comes to pass, can have enormous impact on the area. Please join us.
Date: WEDNESDAY MARCH 16
Time: 6:30-8:30 PM
Place: BRIGHTWOOD PARK UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, CORNER of 8TH and JEFFERSON ST NW
