DC DMV Lifts Appointment Requirement to Obtain a Limited Purpose Credential

(WASHINGTON, DC) – District residents who want to obtain a Limited Purpose driver license or identification card will no longer be required to make an appointment as part of the application process. Effective August 2, 2016, the District of Columbia Department of Motor Vehicles (DC DMV) will accept walk-ins Wednesday through Saturday for those applying for a Limited Purpose Credential. Tuesdays will be by appointment only.

With the expected increase in customer volume at DC DMV’s four Service Centers, residents are encouraged to “Know Before You Go,” and visit the agency’s website at dmv.dc.gov to be sure that they have the required documents to successfully complete their transaction in one visit. For a Limited Purpose credential, residents must provide:

· Proof of Identity;

· Two Proofs of Current DC Residency;

· Two Proofs of Six-Month DC Residency, and

· Social Security Ineligibility.

DC DMV will only accept the documents listed on its website.

Additionally, DC DMV has more than 50 online services, enabling customers to “skip the in-person trip.” Also, with any online or in-person transaction in which DC DMV collects money, customers now have the option to make a donation to the DonateLifeDC organ donor registry to support organ and tissue donation for people located in the Washington, DC community.
