DC Crime Summary – July 16th – 22nd
There was one homicide and several other violent crimes this week in the District. • Sharod Harris, 20, was fatally shot near the Washington Highlands neighborhood last Friday afternoon. Two other men were injured in the same shooting incident. • Ameesha Gray, 22, of Southeast, was charged with first-degree murder while armed in the 2015 death of Cortez Lamont Clark, who lived in Prince George’s County. • Two women and one man were non-fatally shot in a van while driving in the northbound lanes of Interstate 295 early Sunday morning. An investigation is ongoing. • Two men were shot and wounded early Friday near the Fort Stanton and Congress Heights neighborhoods. The investigations are ongoing. • The driver of a stolen Ford truck collided with a Metropolitan Police cruiser early Thursday morning on I-295. The officer and truck driver were taken to an area hospital to treat their injuries.

WJLA: Police: 1 man dead, 2 injured in DC shooting “A man is dead and two others injured after being shot in southeast Washington on Friday, DC police say. According to police, the shooting happened in the 4300 block of 4th Street, SE around 3:15 p.m. Police say responding officers ‘located two adult males, conscious and breathing, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.’ Both men were taken to a hospital, where police say 20-year-old Sharod Harris of SW, D.C. was pronounced dead ‘after all lifesaving efforts proved futile.’”
WJLA: Police: 2 women, 1 man shot on I-295 by unknown vehicle “Two women and one man were shot in a van while driving in the northbound lanes of Interstate 295 early Sunday morning, according to DC police. Police say the man was reported as unconscious, but breathing. The women were both conscious and breathing. An investigation is ongoing.”
Washington Post: Police arrest fourth suspect in 2015 killing of man in Southeast Washington “D.C. police on Monday arrested a fourth suspect in the fatal beating and stabbing of a 32-year-old Maryland man whose body was found last October in a common area of an apartment in Southeast Washington. Ameesha Gray, 22, of Southeast, was charged with first-degree murder while armed in the death of Cortez Lamont Clark, who lived in Temple Hills in Prince George’s County.”
Washington Post: Two men shot in separate attacks in Northeast, Southeast Washington “Two men were shot and wounded early Friday in Northeast and Southeast Washington. The first shooting happened at Mississippi and Wheeler Rd. in Southeast, D.C. around 12:53 a.m. Another victim was attacked about 1:30 a.m. in the 2400 block of Elvans Road SE, at Stanton Road.”
WJLA: Driver of stolen truck collides with MPD cruiser on I-295 in D.C. “The driver of a stolen Ford truck collided with an Metropolitan Police cruiser early Thursday morning on I-295 in Washington, D.C., according to police. An officer and the truck driver were taken to an area hospital to treat their injuries. Police say the truck was stolen in Maryland. Two officers were helping a driver with a flat tire. One of the officers was sitting in the police cruiser when the driver of the truck struck the car.”
Washington Post: D.C. police arrest second suspect in school break-ins “Raymond Marshall, 20, of Northwest, was charged with two counts of burglary. Police earlier had arrested Tyree Irving, 19, of Northwest, on the same charges. A third person is being sought.”
WUSA9: Man arrested for firing shots at victim in DC “Cortez Williams, 26, of D.C. was arrested and charged with assault with intent to kill in connection with the incident that happened on February 14, Metropolitan police said. The assault happened in the 800 block of Oglethorpe Street in Northeast. D.C.
Washington Post: D.C. police investigate burglaries at 10 yoga and Pilates studios “At least 10 yoga and Pilates studios have been burglarized over the past month in several neighborhoods including Capitol Hill, Logan Circle and Chevy Chase, with police listing money and electronic items among the items taken.”
Washington Post: Three police officers killed, three others wounded in Baton Rouge shooting; attacker identified “Three police officers were killed and three others injured in a shooting Sunday morning in Baton Rouge, authorities said. While police offered few immediate details about the exact origins of the incident, they say the violent incident unfolded early Sunday when officers responded to reports of a man carrying a rifle in an area filled with grocery stores and other businesses. Multiple reports identified the shooter as 29-year-old Gavin Long.”
