202 Arts & Music Festival

Join the DC Commission on Arts & Humanities on Saturday, September 10 from 9 am to 10 pm at Canal Park to volunteer for the 202 Arts & Music Festival, a full day of arts and music activities that the entire family can enjoy. The 202 Music & Arts Festival will feature live performances, art exhibitions, interactive workshops and more.

We need volunteers to assist with setting up, staffing the information station, distributing pamphlets, greeting attendees, and providing giveaways. There will be three volunteer shifts: 9:00 am – 2:00 pm, 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm, and 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm.

Performers will include George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic, Black Alley Band, Amadou Koyate, DJ D-MAC, Sin Miedo, and more.

9/11 Day of Service at Fort Battery Ricketts

Please join the Washington DC Service Platoons and The National Park Service as we honor the brave men and women who answered the call to action on 9/11 with a day of service and camaraderie. An historic and iconic community park has fallen into disrepair and we need your help to bring it back to life!

Volunteers will have the following tasks: removing broken picnics tables and concrete chess boards, clearing trash and debris from surrounding trails, demolishing concrete pillars and water foundations, and constructing outdoor fitness equipment.

National Book Festival

The 16th annual National Book Festival sponsored by the Library of Congress will take place on Saturday, September 24 from 9 am to 10 pm at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center located at 801 Mt. Vernon Place NW, Washington, D.C. The Festival celebrates literacy and literature, bringing together best-selling authors and illustrators with thousands of book lovers and avid readers, and is made possible, in part, through the efforts of over 1000 committed volunteers. We hope you will consider joining our effort as a volunteer. To learn more about this pre-eminent literary event, please visit the Festival’s official website.

All Volunteers must meet two requirements. First, Volunteers must commit to at least one 4 ½ hour shift,and second, all volunteers must attend a mandatory briefing session (the dates. times and locations are set forth below.) At the briefing session you will receive your volunteer assignment, a detailed instruction packet, and a Festival T-shirt that identifies you as a volunteer. You must attend one session; we do not need to know in advance which session you will attend.
