(WASHINGTON, DC) – Today, the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) announced revised policies and procedures for DPR’s Summer Camp Reduced Rate Policy. Federal household income guideline changes went into effect on January 1, 2017. These new income guidelines will be in effect for the 2017 summer camps season.

Beginning on Monday, January 23, 2017, DPR will accept reduced rate applications for its 2017 summer camp season. To apply customers must visit the Summer Camp Office located at Columbia Heights Recreation Center, 1480 Girard Street, NW – Ward 1 with correct documentation to qualify for discount. Summer Camp Office hours of operations are: Monday 9:30am – 7pm; Tuesday – Friday 9:30am – 5:00pm

In addition to the summer camp office, DPR will offer two new locations to apply for reduced rate. These two locations will accept applications from January 23 – May 1, 2017.

  • Barry Farm Recreation Center, 1230 Sumner Road, SE – Ward 8 (Monday – Friday from 10am – 2pm; 6:30pm – 8:30pm)
  • Deanwood Recreation Center, 1350 49th Street, NW – Ward 7 (Monday – Friday from 10am – 2pm)

After May 1, 2017, all customers will have to visit the Summer Camp Office located at Columbia Heights Community Center, 1480 Girard Street, NW – 4th Floor – Ward 1

While applications for reduced rate will be accepted beginning Monday, January 23, 2017, camp registration will not open until Monday, February 27, 2017. The goal of the pre-qualification period is to assist residents with completing their reduced rate applications so that they can easily register for camp when registration opens on February 27, 2017. Please note that reduced rate applications will be accepted throughout the entire Summer 2017 season.

DPR can only accept applications for reduced rate in person and applications must be approved for reduced rate prior to registering for camp. If an applicant registers for camp and does not submit a reduced rate application, the applicant will not be eligible to apply for reduced rate and reduced rate refunds will not be issued once camp registration is complete. Reduced rate does not apply to before and after care fees, and does not apply to DPR REC camps.

In order to qualify for a reduced rate for DPR Summer Camps, applicants must be a DC resident and must provide proof of residency and proof of income below the poverty level, according to Federal guidelines.
