|LightHouse was formed in response to this glaring problem: lack of furniture and household goods for homeless and low-income people who secure housing. Many families and individuals who are lucky enough to get housing live in an empty space where they eat and sleep on the floor. LightHouse addresses this critical gap by delivering re-purposed furniture and household goods.
I have seen first-hand in my recent work just how powerful LightHouse’s mission can be. Andre Strickland, my Constituent Services Coordinator, and I met Shantie’s son at an event for high school students. He pulled us aside to ask for our help in finding a home for his mom and siblings who were living in a shelter. Andre and I jumped into action.
With the help of government and nonprofit partners, we secured housing for Shantie and her kids and joined her to see her new home furnished for the first time. Seeing Shantie and her kids overwhelmed with excitement was one of the highlights of my time on the DC Council, and I’d like to see this happen for many more residents in need.
I hope you will join me for this exciting kickoff on June 7. And if you are willing, please make a donation today.
This will allow LightHouse to do its work helping our local residents and families.
