Priya Allen, a resident of the Sixteenth Street Heights neighborhood and passionate supporter of the 14th and Kennedy Streets farmers market, will host a table at this week’s market featuring fresh baked treats (cookies, cupcakes, rice crispy treats) as part of her campaign to support families affected by the recent devastating hurricanes in the Caribbean (Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, and Dominica) and the earthquake in Mexico. She will be assisted by several of her best friends — who will be on hand to help her celebrate her 12th birthday later that day. All funds raised will be matched by her parents and donated to: Fundos Unidos de Puerto Rico (American Red Cross and United Way), Americares, The Dominica Relief and Development Association, and the Mexican Red Cross. She will join by several of her best buddies.

We love to support neighborhood organizations. We offer fruit or vegetables for one time events, gift certificates for silent auctions or raffles. We also consider other ideas you might have to support the neighborhood. Please contact Jim Coleman @ freshvistamarkets.

We are on the hunt for new artisan food vendors now. If you know of a vendor who would be adaptable to the market’s needs and experienced on morning oriented outdoor events to be an artisan food vendor, we would love to talk with you about this, contact Jim Coleman @ freshvistamarkets.

We have secured funding for unplugged acoustic music at the market. The rate is $75 a week and we would love to have folks in the neighborhood playing at market. If you’ve always wanted to try it, this may be your golden opportunity.

Produce Plus, DC’s fresh veggies incentive program, is continuing this week. Unfortunately, the eligibility requirements have changed and we still need more volunteers for this program, so please contact us @: freshvistamarkets soon because we could use your help.
